How Skilled workers can immigrate to Australia [updated 8 February 2023]

Australia now needs a large number of skilled professionals to help revitalise its economy after the pandemic.  You may immigrate to Australia through one of the following pathways. 

 

The following visas allow you to become an Australia Permanent Resident (PR) straight away:

858 Global Talent visa

  • Up to age 55 (with exceptions)

  • Qualification and experience and currently working in one of the following sectors:

(a)        Resources

(b)        Agri-food and AgTech

(c)        Energy

(d)        Health industries

(e)        Defence, advanced manufacturing and space

(f)         Circular economy

(g)        Digitech

(h)        Infrastructure and tourism

(i)         Financial services and FinTech

(j)         Education

  • Can find a nominator with a national reputation in that sector who is an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, an eligible New Zealand citizen or an Australian organisation

  • PhD graduate or current/expected annual salary of at least AUD 162,000

  • With ‘internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement’ (we can write strong supporting statements for the applicant based on applicant’s CV and supporting documents)

  • No English language or points test requirement

  • Can live in any Australian state/territory

 

189 Skilled Independent visa

  • Up to age 45

  • IELTS at least 6 in each component (or equivalent test)

  • Meet points test based on age, qualification, experience, English language test result and spouse/partner skill etc

  • Can live in any Australian state/territory

 

190 Skilled Nominated visa

  • Up to age 45

  • IELTS at least 6 in each component (or equivalent test)

  • Meet points test based on age, qualification, experience, English language test result and spouse/partner skill etc

  • Require nomination by an Australian state/territory government (receiving nomination can add extra points)

 

186 Employer Nomination Scheme visa (Direct Entry stream)

  • Up to age 45

  • IELTS at least 6 in each component (or equivalent test)

  • At least 3 years work experience (with exceptions)

  • Require nomination by an Australian employer who will employ the applicant for at least 2 years

The following visas allow you to become an Australia Permanent Resident (PR) after living/working in Australia for 3-4 years:

​

491 Skilled Work Regional visa

  • Up to age 45

  • IELTS at least 6 in each component (or equivalent test)

  • Meet points test based on age, qualification, experience, English language test result and spouse/partner skill etc

  • Require nomination by an Australian state/territory government (receiving nomination can add extra points)

  • Must live and work in regional Australia for at least 3 years (regional Australia means places other than Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, such as cities like Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast etc.)

  • Must earn minimum annual taxable income for at least 3 years

  • Can apply for PR after 3 years

 

494 Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa

  • Up to age 45 (with exceptions)

  • At least 3 years relevant work experience (with exceptions)

  • IELTS at least 6 in each component (or equivalent test)

  • Require nomination by an Australian employer in regional Australia (regional Australia means places other than Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, such as cities like Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast etc.)

  • Must live and work in regional Australia for at least 3 years

  • Must earn minimum annual taxable income for at least 3 years

  • Can apply for PR after 3 years

482 Temporary Skill Shortage visa

  • No age limit

  • IELTS at least 4.5 in each component and at least 5.0 overall (or equivalent test) (depending on occupation)

  • At least 2 years work experience

  • Require nomination by an Australian employer

  • Can apply for PR after 3-4 years (additional PR pathway for applicants holding HKSAR/BNO passports)

  • 須要獲得澳洲僱主提名, 該僱主將僱用申請人至少2年


以下簽證可以讓你在澳洲生活/工作3-4年後成為澳洲永久居民 (PR):


491技術工作偏遠地區簽證

  • 45歲以下

  • 雅思每部分至少6分（或同等考試）

482臨時技能短缺簽證

  • 無年齡限制

  • 雅思每部分至少4.5分, 總分至少5.0分 (或同等考試)(視乎職業而定)

  • 至少2年工作經驗

  • 須要獲得澳洲僱主提名

  • 3-4年後可申請成為澳洲永久居民 (PR)（澳洲政府提供給香港特區/BNO護照申請人的額外移民途徑）
